Counselling in Amsterdam or online.

We meet in my lovely office, or online, wherever you are.

You’ve done everything you can, but something’s not working anymore.

You're tired, stressed out, deeply sad or feeling like a failure. Perhaps you've had a burn-out or bouts of depression - or you're just feeling deeply uncertain, not understood by others or yourself. Your confidence, energy and belief in yourself or life itself are crumbling by the day. The future seems scary - but the past is no longer an option. Here you are, stuck in the painful middle.

Your loved ones don't get it, don't know about it or are dealing with their own things. Your friends are busy or can't offer you the support you need. You're left feeling lonelier and tenser, struggling to figure this out. Your mind and inner world are in turmoil - as you're searching for some kind of foothold, an answer or way out of this place, to help you take a breather and reflect on next steps.

You didn’t think you’d be here. And you realise it’s time to reach out for support.

Overwhelmed

You're struggling with fear, anxiety and stress. You know something has to change, but you feel as if you're wading through mud.

Maybe you’re:

Starting over

Whether it's a new job, a new life chapter, or a move abroad, you're feeling vulnerable and frazzled as you try to find yourself anew.

At a loss

While on the outside, it seems there's nothing to worry about, on the inside, you're feeling low, insecure and confused.

Exhausted

You've reached a point where you want to stop trying or doing - and simply let go and be for a while. But you just don't know how.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. And in that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom”

- Viktor Frankl

While the paths that lead us here may not have been the same - I know what it's like to feel lost, confused and afraid of the worst thing happening. And what I've learned from being here multiple times is that (starting to) feel better again has little to do with trying to control life, beating yourself up or keeping others out.

It's all about slowing down, breathing and letting someone in...

Know that you've done nothing wrong to be here - and that this moment too, won't last. The past may have formed part of you and the future may be where you hope for things to be better - but this present is where the magic truly happens.

What you can expect from a 1:1 session with me is a non-judgemental space to slow down and feel heard. You'll leave feeling calmer and kinder towards yourself. This is the start of a new beginning for you...

Here's how:

Simply book a first session through my online calendar. During our 1-hr session, you tell me what's going on and we start our work. It's that simple and there's no on-going commitment. The fee for this is €110 (scroll down for sliding scale fee options). We meet at my lovely office in Amsterdam or over Zoom. There are no strings attached. We do our work - and you go back to your life and see how it affects you.

FAQ:

  • Multiple research studies have found that one of the most important factors contributing to healing in counselling (and therapy) is having a collaborative, genuine and caring relationship with that person, who supports you in working towards your goals. I therefore recommend reaching out to someone you feel a click with. You can get to know me a bit throughout my site.

There are all kinds of coaches, counsellors, healers, therapists, teachers (with all kinds of different approaches among them) and people reaching out to them in the world - but equally so: many people who help themselves feel better in other ways.

This is my gift to you: you are allowed to decide what you want, now and always - and also, to completely change your mind again tomorrow. Booking a session with me isn't about being stronger or weaker, healthier or less so, better or worse. It's simply about giving yourself what you need to feel better, right now.

Should you sense after a session or two that you don't feel a click with me, or that growth means looking elsewhere, know I'll fully support you as well. The beauty of hiring outside support is that I won't take it personally, and will be on your side, whatever you share / decide.

  • Our sessions will be very much for you - what you need, what you're struggling with, what hurtful or difficult thing you experienced, what things you hope and dream of. The purpose of our work will be for you to process, reflect, and learn more about yourself, in a patient, loving and non-judgemental space. Ultimately, this will lead to you feeling less afraid and more alive, having deeper and more loving connections with yourself and others and living a life out in the world that feels more expansive.

I usually start the first session by asking what a good outcome of our time together will look like for you - as this helps you formulate what matters most right now, and gives me a sense of how I can best support you on your journey there.

As an example of what that may include, past clients have, since our working relationship:

    • made a career switch from the sciences to the arts & started an Etsy shop,

    • felt all their feelings, noticed their body no longer feels tense & started (slowly, in their own way) to become a coach,

    • quit a job they'd been dreading for years,

    • gone to school to become a paramedic,

    • started to become more accepting of themselves and speak up more at work & home,

    • learned to be more comfortable with the 'windy path' to figuring out what they want

I can't take credit for any of the above, nor can I predict how your life will unfold. What I can take credit for is being a sounding board, counselor and safe place for a period in their lives. Having a person to reflect with, to safely vent to, to open up to and to learn new things with can make a world of difference. And, as scary as it may seem at first, once you dare to meet your inner world, one step at a time - things you may not have even dreamt of changing will start to shift in the outside world as well.

  • What 'success' looks like is different for everyone, based on who you are, what you want, the phase of life or change you're in and what you're struggling with. It is (still) an act of courage to define 'success' on our own terms. Positive change isn't the linear, upward slope we'd like it to be. What I've found a more helpful image, is that of a cyclical journey of ever-deepening awareness.

For most of us, it can be hard to disentangle what's emerging from within from more dominant cultural narratives. I will support you in your ongoing discovery of meeting yourself, of untangling modes of being that no longer work for you and of helping you stay lovingly present to the ups and downs of life. Positive steps towards this may be anything from one or several of the following: how you feel on the inside, particular actions or changes on the outside or different results in your interactions with other people.

I'm not a typical therapist / counsellor, in that I allow you to fully take the lead on when and how often you want to book sessions with me. The gift of seeking support for yourself is that's it's all about you, and I therefore leave it entirely up to you to decide when you're finished. There may be in times in our lives that are more difficult, hurtful and challenging than others - and where, in an act of kindness towards ourselves, we may want more (frequent) support. At other times, it can be an act of nourishment to have that one person to be heard and seen by, even if once a year. Ultimately - it is up to you. You can have weekly sessions or reach out every few months. You can finish, move on to another therapist, or take a break and return to me years down the line. The door is always open - and there is no timeline or agenda from my side you have to follow.

    • Payment happens automatically at the end of the booking process through my online calendar. Payment is possible via iDeal, bank transfer, creditcard and more.

    • Alternatively, if I manually book you in, I will send you an invoice the day of your session. Please transfer this in advance or within a few days of our session. Let me know if you have any difficulties.

    • If you are unable to make it to our session, please let me know up to 24 hours in advance. For cancellations within 24 hours I ask for a €25 cancellation fee to help cover my running costs, in case I can't find someone else to replace your timeslot.

  • Unfortunately not.

If you'd like to work with me but can't afford my full fee, please note that I offer some sliding-scale (reduced) fee spots. See below to find out how to apply.

Please note that some clients have been able to apply for funding from their employer for our sessions. It may be helpful to check with your manager or HR-department if a personal development / coaching budget is available for you.

  • I offer a few sliding-scale (reduced) fee spots at a time. I offer a €50 fee for students with limited income, and a €85 fee for (young) professionals with a limited income. These are valid for 60-minute session, in person or online. To apply for a sliding scale fee, please e-mail me with the following information:

    • What's your current household financial situation like?

    • What regular fee would you like to apply for?

    • How long are you requesting this reduced fee for? (at the end of this period - we'll re-evaluate).
